While Dr. Anthony Fauci told CNN in a recent interview with Michael Smerconish that a return to masking could be coming, insisted in defiance of several studies that the masks do work and said he hopes that people would abide by mandates, Louisianans in an unofficial Poll by KPEL just weren’t having it.

Fauci told CNN’s Smerconish, "I would hope that if we get to the point that the volume of cases is such and organizations like the CDC recommends – CDC does not mandate anything – recommends that people wear masks, I would hope that people abide by that recommendation and take into account the risks to themselves and their families.”

Joe Cunningham wrote for the KPEL, “Lafayette residents, asked in an informal poll how they would respond to a new mask mandate, voiced some strong opinions."Hell no," was the consensus as of this writing.”

The Facebook users responding to the station varying blamed the “corporate media,” the “Democrat establishment,” and businesses for enforcing the mandates.

One user amusingly wrote, “Although I think masks offer some help, I will rather not wear one. I think it should always be an option. However, I think the 6ft apart rule should be made law, only because I dislike flithy humans and I would like for them to stay away from me LMFAO. Anyways, just follow good freakin hygiene, cover your cough/sneeze, wash your hands and your arse, keep your digits out your mouth, eyes and nose... lastly... stay tf home if you are sick!”

Fox News reported that several doctors came to producers to refute Fauci, with Dr. Brett Osborn, a Florida board-certified neurosurgeon telling them there is “limited efficacy data” on masking "particularly regarding the large-scale spread of the disease, as was the case during the pandemic."

"Let’s face it, regardless of mask usage, the population en masse will be exposed to SARS-COV-2, and its variants, as is the case with influenza,"

He concluded, "This limited efficacy, in conjunction with the typical antigenic drift of RNA viruses to a less pathogenic strain, does not justify another round of mask mandates, especially since the CDC numbers are in line with increasing hospitalization rates (and their subsequent fall) this past February.

“This intermittent fluctuation is the new norm, so expect it — as COVID-19 is here to stay," he added.

Dr. Shana Johnson, a physical medicine and rehabilitation physician from Scottsdale, Arizona told the outlet that she has concerns about the possible return of mandatory masking in schools.

She explained, "Masking mandates disproportionately affect and disrupt the education of children, especially those with autism."

"In my experience, schools have had a very ‘black and white’ policy when under mask mandates," she noted, adding "I observed disciplining and shaming of neurodivergent as well as typically developing children in elementary and middle schools when they have difficulty wearing a mask.

Neither Shreveport, Bossier nor Caddo Parish have made any indications of returning to a mandate and even Democrat Governor John Bel Edwards who politically has very little to lose at this point has made mention of it, potentially indicating that Baton Rouge overall has very little stomach for the idea.

That notwithstanding, what is this doing to our kids? We should be up in arms just over that. The fact that our children were subjected to losing invaluable education, and studies show: the ability to read facial expressions and emotional cues and now there’s talk of doing it AGAIN.
