Grace Anne Blake was sworn into office as a Caddo Parish Commissioner on September 5th will only hold the seat until the next election which will be on Oct. 14th.

According to The Shreveport Times, Blake, a Republican and the owner of the Avalon Hair Salon, will now fill the seat left vacant by Ronald Cothran after the controversial redistricting earlier this year, and the resignation of Republican Jim Taliaferro who resigned after being elected to the Shreveport City Council.

Blake told the Times, "I will be up for re-election on October 14 for the four-year term,” adding, "as a local successful businesswoman I will use my voice for no wasteful spending and lower taxes, and I will stay true to my core values of faith, family, and community."

As reported by KTAL, Cothrun pulled out of consideration in order to run for the redistricted District 10. He was controversially selected in January to stand as the interim Commissioner for District 8. She was sworn in by Caddo Parish Clerk of Court Mike Spence and her term will end January 7th.

In a statement posted to Facebook Blake wrote,

I would like to announce that I am now the Caddo Commissioner for District 8! I will be running for re-election on October 14th!

There was a special election to fill the remaining term vacated by Jim Taliaferro. I ran unopposed for this seat, and was sworn in today to start serving our district.

I would like to thank Jim Taliaferro and Ron Cothran for their service for District 8.

As Caddo Commissioner, I will work to advance public safety and economic growth in our parish. I will also continue to oppose tax increases and to oppose wasteful spending. Caddo parish has some of the highest property taxes in Louisiana. We cannot attract new businesses and residents if we are not intentional about addressing these issues.

Thank you for allowing me to serve for the remainder of this term, and I am asking for your vote on October 14!

KTAL reported that Blake’s affiliations within the Shreveport community are extensive. She is a Shreveport native, graduated from the Louisiana Technical College and has owned and operated teh Avalon Hair Salon for 25 years. She is also a member of Elk Club Lodge #122, St. Baldrick’s Foundation, St. Jude’s, and the Krewe of Centaur.
