Report: Chairman Green— The Marshall Wants His Badge Back
As previously reported by American Ground Radio, Shreveport City Council Chair James Green, who notably accused Shreveport PD of pulling him over for 'Driving While Black,' and proceeded to pull out both Louisiana State Trooper Patch for being a “certain person” and a literal BADGE from the City Marshal is now in some hot water with the actual City Marshall James Jefferson over the debacle. The scandal has compounded the controversy surrounding Green given that he already has an investigation against his conduct in the City Council mounting.
According to our friends over a KTBS, Jonathan Ponder, a public information officer for the marshal’s office told the outlet that Jefferson called a SPD assistant chief to tell him his officers could take the card and badge away from Green, thinking the traffic stop had just happened.
Subsequently, Ponder said,
“We will be reaching out to get it back from him,” as Green’s conduct doesn’t reflect well on the marshal’s office.
The outlet reported that per Ponder, the card accompanying the badge Chairman Green holds is not an actual commission card. It neither carries an oath of office nor symbolizes that the bearer holds the authority of a sworn Deputy Marshall.
Allegedly Green held a card recognizing him as an “honorary” deputy marshal given under previous Marshall Charlie Caldwell Jr. who passed away in a 2022 boating accident. Ponder added that showing the badge during a traffic stop was “definitely not correct.” Adding anyone given a card is told not to “flash it.” as it holds no authority or power and cannot be used to “get out of tickets,” Ponder said, describing the card as more like a “showpiece.”
The honorary cards have expiration dates that reportedly correspond with the term of the sitting Marshall and Green’s was likely issued during the term of the late Marshall Caldwell.
SPD told reporters that Green was given a verbal warning and did not receive a ticket for his tinted windows. Perhaps the Chairman might be better suited with a simple “Back the Blue,” or a ‘Thin blue line’ bumper sticker instead?
