Orleans Parish Coroner Raises The Alarm— 'Tent Cities' Are 'Disease time bombs.'

Dr. Dwight McKenna, the Orleans Parish Coroner has raised the alarm regarding the emergence and growth of “tent-cities” or shanty towns euphemistically referred to by media outlets and governments as “homeless encampments.”

According to WGNO, the coroner gave a warning describing the ad hoc communities as “disease time bombs.”

In a statement, Dr. McKenna said,

“Nowhere is the breakdown of public health more obvious than in ‘tent cities’ and other locations where homeless people gather.”

The coroner reported that populations in major cities throughout the U.S. have become breeding grounds for several serious illnesses including; Hepatitis A, as was reported in San Diego where an outbreak is ongoing with 300 people hospitalized and sixteen fatalities; Streptococcus was also reported in Anchorage, Alaska has already killed three people; Shigella, a foodborne pathogen has spread through Portland, Oregon’s homeless resulting in bloody diarrhea; Tuberculosis, long linked to homelessness has seen a marked increase worldwide with over 2 million fatalities annually; Cholera, well known in the third world is spread through the ingestion of contaminated water and food through contact with infected human excrement. Likewise, the outlet noted Salmonella Infections which include Typhoid Fever which are common in such tent cities.

McKenna added, “The luxury of modern life is due to the strong defense provided by the ‘pillars’ of our public health system.”
