Attorney General Jeff Landry Takes 'Commanding Position' In Latest Louisiana Governor Polls
An independent poll for the contentious Louisiana Governor’s race has revealed Republican Attorney General Jeff Landry to possess a “commanding position” over his closest competitor over all of the GOP contenders and even the single Democrat participating in the ‘jungle primary’ that characterizes Louisiana’s unorthodox electoral system.
According to the poll from Kaplan Strategies cited by Shreveport Times, the nearest contender to Landry is former transportation secretary for Democratic Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards Shawn Wilson who polls at 20%, 10 points behind Landry’s 30%. The remaining Republican candidates are eking out single-digit returns early in the contest with Republican Treasurer John Shroder tieing for third with former Louisiana Association of Business and Industry President Stephen Waguespack at 6%. They’re followed with 5% by Republican Sen. Sharon Hewitt and independent Hunter Lundy, a Lake Charles attorney, and GOP Rep. Richard Nelson who trails at 2%.
Significantly, 24% of the electorate is still up for grabs polling as undecided, implying that while Landry’s lead is indeed commanding, it is not yet insurmountable, particularly the Democrat Wilson and less so for Republicans Shroder and Waguespck. However, were two, three, or even all four fellow Republicans to withdraw and successfully convert their support to Landry, his lead could become truly overwhelming.
President Doug Kaplan told the USA Today Network "This is one of only three governors' races in the country and a good opportunity for us raise our profile," speaking of his lesser-known pollster Kaplan Strategies as reported by the Times. He described Landry as “well positioned” at this early stage of the race to replace the term-limited Democrat Gov. John Bel Edwards.
Landry has risen to national prominence of late following his victory with Missouri AG Andrew Bailey against the Biden Administration, with the two obtaining a historic ruling and injunction preventing the federal government from contacting social media outlets to coordinate what Bailey called, “unconstitutional censorship,” as reported by The DC Enquirer.
“Today, we won an historic injunction against the Biden Administration, preventing it from censoring the core political speech of ordinary Americans on social media,” said Attorney General Landry.
“The evidence in our case is shocking and offensive with senior federal officials deciding that they could dictate what Americans can and cannot say on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and other platforms about COVID-19, elections, criticism of the government, and more.”
American Ground Radio contacted the Landry campaign regarding the polling results and they have declined to comment.
