AGR Calls Upon Chief Whitehorn to Address the Voters—Whitehorn tells podcast host 'There’s nothing else to talk about'

Why is it, that former Police Chief and Democratic Sheriff’s candidate Henry Whitehorn Sr. has refused to participate in any further debates or forums with Republican candidate John Nickelson and has rebuffed invitations to appear on American Ground Radio to address the concerns of voters?

AGR’s Louis Avallone reached out to a campaign surrogate to see if Whitehorn himself wouldn’t speak with him, perhaps they could on his behalf. The Whitehorn campaign reportedly declined and if the information given to Louis is correct: it’s because you already have your mind made up and therefore speaking to you isn’t a good use of Whitehorn’s time.

Rather than address independent voters or attempt to win over conservatives, Whitehorn seems convinced that all he has to do to win on March 23rd is focus exclusively on a get-out-the-vote campaign for his base: the Black Democrat voters.

Speaking with Melvin Lars of the Nobody ASKED Me Guy Show podcast on Tuesday, Whitehorn addressed his refusal to debate Nickelson saying,

“You know Melvin, we… we did all the debates uh on the first round with we… we went to town hall after Town Hall we had Forum after Forum we did debates on live television. There’s nothing else to talk about.”

He continued, “Uh folks have heard our record they they know that uh… my experience level versus my opponent's experience level. Uh I don't know what else it is to talk about… uh… Right now our issue is we need to get out and vote and and and and go ahead and finish this election and put the best man in office this is not about uh… Henry Whitehorn anymore this is about what's right for the citizens of Caddo Parish and making sure that we have the person in office that knows how to do the job and can get the job done. Uh you know a lot of times you know when we we look at law enforcement people, you know the the trust in law enforcement not what it used to be uh certainly and and so we're talking about putting the man in office that has zero experience in in law enforcement in the top law enforcement position in the Parish and it just doesn't make sense.”

He then cryptically suggested “I- I'll be honest with you I don't believe we would be in this situation if the shoe was on the other foot,” implying that had Nickelson won by a single vote with over a dozen votes ruled out through litigation that there would not be a new election. Possibly suggesting an ulterior motive in the rulings that brought us here.

While Whitehorn has carefully avoided any public statements alluding to a possible link between Nickelson's election challenge and any notion of racist voter suppression, the Louisiana Democratic Party leadership released a statement claiming that the legal efforts to true-up the election result were bringing Caddo Parish “back to a world reminiscent of Jim Crow, a world of exclusion, control and violent inequality," according to The Shreveport Bossier Advocate.

To which Nickelson responded, “Racially divisive nonsense like this is why the Louisiana Democratic Party is on its deathbed.” He added, "Multiple illegal votes – including unsigned ballots – were counted. Voters deserve fair elections and understand why two courts have ordered a new election for Caddo Parish sheriff."
